This grasshopper was exceptionally small, like a grain of rice.

This tiny grasshopper is missing a leg but can still jump fairly well.

I found a bunch of these tiny naiads under a rock.  They look sort of like juvenile mayflies, but their sides and tails are not quite like the mayflies I’ve found before.  The beginnings of their wings look different too.  They were at the edge of a river that still had a fair amount of ice in it.

Thanks to fatchance for the ID…  It’s a stonefly nymph!
