So, we went to the zoo (the Oregon Zoo in Portland). In a lot of ways it’s very nice, especially compared to the sad creepy zoos of my youth. But I have mixed feelings about zoos in general, and especially about animals like elephants and primates that seem to think and remember things sort of like we do…
This is Lily the baby elephant, born in December 2012. She looks kind of sad and her story is sad too, in that she narrowly avoided being sold to a circus.
